Road Closure FAQ

I live inside the residential course loop, how do I get out during the race? How do I get back in?

Residents living within the course loop and wishing to leave the area should proceed to Talbot St and then to Rosecrans St, where there is a course crossing. Traffic controllers will assist you to leave the course at this location. Likewise, residents living within the course loop and wishing to return to the area should use Rosecrans St. Traffic controllers will assist you to re-enter the course at this location.

I need to report to work at Naval Base Point Loma during the race, how can I get there?

Military personnel requiring access to Naval Base Point Loma may proceed southwest on Rosecrans Street, where you may cross the course at Avenida De Portugal and then continue south on to the Naval Base.  Vehicular traffic again may cross the race course at Rosecrans St and McClelland Rd.  No vehicular traffic will be allowed on McClelland Rd, but vehicles may continue south on Rosecrans St.  Please note: all vehicular traffic will be metered in and out through the “inbound” side of the gate on Rosecrans St, because bicycle traffic will be traveling through the “outbound” side of the gate, so some delays should be expected

Alternately, military personnel may access Naval Base Point Loma via Catalina Blvd, as far as Electron Dr.  No vehicles will be allowed south of Electron Dr until after 9:00 AM.  To access the base from this direction, vehicles must first leave “the course loop” via the directions in the first question, above, and then proceed east on Canon St, then south on Catalina Blvd.

I want to go to Shelter Island during the race, what’s the best way to get there during the race?

The best way to access Shelter Island during the race is via Rosecrans St to Shelter Island Dr, where traffic controllers will assist you to cross the course at Scott St.  This will be the quickest route to Shelter Island Dr and once you have crossed Scott St, you will not encounter the race course again.
